The Pressure Transducer Module consists of 4 strain gauge pressure transducers each responsible for reading the true pressure of a different engine region, from intake at low pressure to exhaust at high pressure. The purpose of the test rig is to provide simulation of the aero engine, allowing the Pressure Transducer Module to be calibrated and observed working across its full temperature and pressure range.
participation in the project was the development of the Pressure Transducer Module Test Rig Software in conjunction with the client who was responsible for the production of the Pressure Transducer Module.
The Test Rig provides simulation of the aero engine over its full operating temperature and pressure range. Stepping the temperature of the Pressure Transducer Module from -40°c to 110°c while the pressure on each transducer is cycled through and beyond its full range, allows the output of the transducers to be read by the Test Rig Software and a 3 dimensional interpolation table for each transducer to be created.
The interpolation table describes the transducer output relative to the transducer diode temperature and the driving transducer pressure. These interpolation tables are then down loaded onto the Pressure Transducer Module as calibration data, allowing it to accurately measure input pressures while within the specified temperature range. The calibrated Pressure Transducer Module will then undergo production acceptance testing, to prove that the output is within accuracy and reliability requirements.
The Test Rig Software was written in Visual C++ and provided a PC based GUI platform, from which all aspects of the rig's hardware modules and environmental chamber could be controlled. This was achieved via an IEEE 488 communications bus. The user-friendly Windows NT based dialogs created by the Test Rig Software provided the ability to easily read the status of the hardware and the output of the Pressure Transducer Module under test, allowing diagnostics to be performed on both the hardware and Pressure Transducer Module.
